Displaced Worker Program

The Displaced Worker is the individual who:

  • Terminated or was terminated, or received a notice of termination or dismissal from employment and is eligible for or has exhausted their rights to compensation for unemployment, or is part of the workforce and is not eligible for compensation for unemployment due to insufficient earnings or due to that the employer is not covered by the Law, and it is unlikely that he will return to the industry or occupation from which he ended or was suspended.

  • Terminated or was terminated, or received notice of termination or dismissal from employment as a result of a permanent lockout, or substantial suspension in a plant, facility or company.

  • It is employed in a facility in which the employer made a general announcement that the company will close within 180 days; or has made a general announcement that said facility will close.

  • Employed on his own (including farmer, fisherman), but is unemployed as a result of the general economic conditions of the community in which he resides or due to natural disasters.

  • Displaced by domestic chores. It is the person who has provided services without pay in the home, to the members of the family unit and: has depended on the income of another member of the family unit and no longer has said income; or is a spouse of a member of the armed forces on active duty and their income has been significantly reduced; or is unemployed (or) or sub-employed and has difficulty obtaining or improving their employment.

  • Spouse of an active member of the Armed Forces who has lost his job as a result of his husband's permanent relocation.

  • Spouse of an active member of the Armed Forces and who is unemployed and is experiencing difficulty in getting a job or improving what he has.
